One of the most common problems is the remote procedure call failed error.  It majorly happens because of the lack of backward compatibility for 2008 SQL Server Configuration Manager. SQL Server 2012 was installed

SQL Server 2008 or prior was already installed

Steps to Manually Fix the Error 

    To fix the problem in Windows 8, you simply need to right-click the title to start and then click ‘Open File Location’ in the menu that you can see on the bottom of the screen.

    Now right-click the SQL Server Configuration Manager shortcut and go to Properties. 

    Here in the Target, you will notice that the snap is going to the SQLServerManager10.msc. It is a 2008 R2 version, and it is not compatible with 2012 or 2014. 

    Here you must notice that the MSC for opening MMC is located in the SysWOW64 folder. It is a common location for all the MSC files. Here you can see both 2008 R2 and 2012 MSC files. 

    Now remove the SQL Server Configuration Manager from the tiles on your PC and then add the one that you found in the 2012 folder. 

    Here you need to leave the prior version if required for other configurations. Also rename the 2012 MSC for easy identification.  

    Now you need to perform the second option. First of all, open the SysWOW64 folder.

    Now right click the shortcut and rename it something that you can easily identify while distinguishing it from the 2012 configuration manager. Here you must make sure that the Target points to the 

    Once completed, you need to right click the shortcut and Pin to Start. 

    Now the tile will show that it is the 2012 version, and it will not show the RPC error.


The remote procedure call failed error is a complicated and critical error that can even crash the PC and make severe damages.
